Ideas for change – we all have them. I, for one, would like to change my mailman’s annoying habit of forgetting to deliver my mail every couple of days. But, it’s a long road from saying something should be changed to making the change real.
Take, for example, the Ideas for Change in America competition: over the past six weeks, you proposed, discussed and voted on over 2,500 ideas. From that original pool, 62 emerged as the finalists. On Monday, we’ll know which 10 stood out above all others as the winners. But, then what?
Then the real work begins! Working with each of the idea creators, the Change.org team will launch national grassroots campaigns, using both the Change.org site and our connections with decision-makers all over the country. In other words, we’re going to start trying to turn those 10 ideas into reality.
Of course we’ll start with what we do best: setting up petitions on behalf of the cause winners in order to raise even more awareness around the issues. Furthermore, our bloggers and editors will cover the many different aspects of these ideas through timely blog posts (and perhaps even a few guest posts from the idea creators themselves).
And, while we feel that our online campaigns are particularly effective (as I discussed last week) we want to do more to really propel these ideas into the limelight. As a result, we will endeavor to connect with members of the Obama administration or Congressional officials who would be most appropriate to comment on the idea and get them to do so – on video! These videos will be posted to YouTube and on Change.org and will serve as a great jumping off point for all of the campaigns.
While all this is well and good, you may be asking why I felt it necessary to tell you all this, including the bit about my mailman. The answer is simple: we need your help. Just like I can’t compel my mailman to deliver my mail in a timely manner on my own, we can’t turn these ideas into reality on our own either.
The idea creators have worked long and hard to present you with compelling ideas and you’ve cast your vote. But, now we need you to do more: we need you to sign those petitions and spread the word to your friends about the 10 things our community has decided need changing. We need to you take action and join the grassroots movements to create positive, progressive change in America. We can’t do it without your help.

Fun Shakers has awesome Obama/Biden presidential salt & pepper shakers that make terrific holiday gifts. My parents loved the set I bought for them and my grandmother did too!
I see nothing on this site about Wikipedia, Julian Assange, or Bradley Manning – all causes which I support. Seems like these would be naturals for change.org
When i visit a blog, chances are that I notice that most blogs are amateurish. On the contrary,I have to say that you have done a good job here.
I love this site. In fact I was just doing some creative brainstorming today trhinking about starting and/or joining with a massive non-for profit group and a for profit organization that fights back against greed, corruption and entities that take advantage of people and doesn’t allow for people to have a redress of grievances or anywhere to get their situations resolved where they have been wronged. I had resolved within myself not to be a victim anymore but to fight back with all of my knowledge/wisdom and energies to help myself and of course others who don’t think/feel they can find help take care of their problems and concerns. To me cause.org seems to be the ideal group to work with and is the right thing to do and help others around the world. “Right On” which is the catch word from the great 60′s and 70′s of my generation which needs to live on and empower all the people. Thank you so “Let’s Get This Party Started”.
