HUMAN RIGHTS: Family of jailed Nazanin Ratcliffe deliver 500,000 petition to Number 10 as she is moved out of solitary confinement

British-Iranian Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, 37, has been held without charge since being arrested by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on April 3.

Her husband, Richard Ratcliffe, from London, who has led a campaign on Change.org delivered his petition of more than 500,000 signatures to Number 10 Downing Street earlier today (May 19).

He was joined by his parents, MP Tulip Siddiq, the CEO of Thomson Reuters Foundation where Nazanin works and Kamran Foroughi - who is also campaigning for his grandad Kamal’s release from an Iranian jail.

Speaking after handing in his petition, Richard said: “It was a proud moment to be here with my family and that 500,000 people are wanting to bring Nazanin and Gabriella home.

“I can’t put into words how uplifting and how much hope this brings me to keep fighting to bring Nazanin back. I think that those in power will have to realise that people feel so strongly about this.

“I’m so grateful to everyone who signed the petition. This isn’t something I would have been able to do 10 years ago - it’s Change.org that has made this possible.”

Tulip Siddiq, MP Hampstead and Kilburn added: “The Foreign Office needs to do something, otherwise what’s the point of the Foreign Office?”

Richard told how his wife was moved to a group cell at a location in Kerman province, 600 miles south of the Iranian capital last night.

Nazanin was separated from her 22-month-old daughter Gabriella after being stopped at Imam Khomeini airport in Tehran as the pair tried to return to the UK from a family holiday.

She was moved out of solitary confinement after 45 days.
