Gretchen Tome takes domestic violence seriously; as a child therapist, she works with survivors of domestic violence in her home city of Baltimore, MD every day. She also takes football seriously as a long-time Cleveland Browns fan.
But when Gretchen found out pro football players can be criminally convicted of domestic violence twice before the NFL will finally kick them out, she wasn’t happy. Instead of getting mad, Gretchen started a petition urging the NFL to change their policy.
Last week, Gretchen delivered her petition -- which has more than 64,000 signatures -- to NFL Headquarters in New York. Her work inspired fans to create 156 more petitions asking 29 NFL teams not to allow domestic abusers to play for them. Those petitions garnered more than 200,000 signatures.
